brunch Saturday.
Leaves me wondering if Greg Cox is talking about the same "Southern Rail" where we have been?? Or maybe he visited very soon after they had opened when they were still getting staff in place and working out the kinks?
We live close by and have been quite pleased with our Southern Rail experiences to date. This place provides a rare "total package," with cool atmosphere, great food and a fun bar scene. The quality of the food has well exceeded our expectations, with VERY reasonable price points compared to anywhere else in Chapel Hill-Carrboro. My personal favorites are the scallops, soups, and the fried chicken, but everything we have ordered so far has been good. The place also has a wonderfully unique vintage rail station ambiance with eclectic decor and a good bar crowd. Excellent spot for dinner before a show at the Cradle as well as drinks afterwards.
But don't take our word for it... please take time to check out the recent rave reviews posted on "CHOWHOUND.COM" in the past month from a variety of other very satisfied patrons. Here is a link:

We will continue to be regulars and are looking forward to seeing what they do with the old train station space they are renovating next door!

News & Observer restaurant critic Greg Cox says: All aboard for gustatory adventure in the restored train cars that house this Carrboro restaurant and bar. The ride is sometimes bumpy, but yakimasu, an appetizer pairing fried seafood and an Asian-dressed salad, ought to get you off to a smooth start. Other rewarding options include house-made soups, arugula and roasted beet salad, Berkshire pork chop and cast iron scallops.
