'Stop-Loss' fails mission as war film

'Stop-Loss," the first film from director Kimberly Peirce since the critically acclaimed "Boys Don't Cry," is a maddening bore of a film. Earnest enough in its presentation, and avoiding the polemics of some recent Iraq war films such as Brian DePalma's "Redacted," it strives to evoke feeling and succeeds in nothing but provoking ennui.
