For a film about the end of the world, "2012" is so 1996. I know that's where my mind went while watching it. This kind of mega-budgeted (we're talking $200 mil here!) mayhem took me back to the event-movie days of the mid-to-late '90s, when Will Smith flew into the air to kick some alien booty in "Independence Day" and came back down an A-list movie star.
