Raleigh, NC is a long way from Reading, PA, yet Amedeo "Dick" DeAngelis made the trek to play football for the mighty NC State Wolfpack in 1954. Playing on a scholarship, he was a long way from home and he greatly missed "home cooking". The idea of opening a small Italian restaurant seemed the most effective way to alleviate the longing. He utilized homemade recipes from his mother and grandmother and in 1963, a 12-seat restaurant opened on Western Boulevard in Raleigh. Since that time Dick, along with his mother, wife Betty, children, and grandchildren and many loyal employees have expanded "Amedeo's" into a premier eating establishment with a seating capacity now of over 200!

Amedeo DeAngelis opened his Italian eatery in 1963, and generations of Raleigh families and Wolfpack fans have made Amedeo's an enduring favorite. The restaurant's bill of fare is a multigenerational effort, too, crowned by cannoli, Sicilian cassata and cheesecakes made from an old familly recipe. It shouldn't be hard to earn your dessert, either, when Mom sees what a good job you've done eating your chicken cacciatore, or manicotti, or spaghetti with homemade meat sauce, or seafood lasagna, or pizza (though Mom will probably insist on including a couple of veggies among the toppings).
