I have traveled extensively in India and love good Indian food. I return to this restaurant more often.
These folks do a great job. The difference I see in their foods is that I can taste subtle flavors when I order Spinach or Kormas.
Any food they serve are simply delicious and done the most authentic way without exaggeration. There are no surprises (as I observed ) they spend enough time on taking the order and try hard to meet your expectations.
Some dishes are improvised based on what flavors you like.
I have tried almost every variety of Lamb and chicken dish here and they each taste unique.
The best I like here are their breads. The Nan are big and good serving size as opposed to the other restaurants in the area.
I would rate this restaurant amongst the best I have eaten.

We eat at Bombay Kitchen on a weekly basis and have had the complete opposite experience as another reviewer.
The lamb is always available and fresh, the chef will actually cook to the customer's individual tastes and often surprises us with some variations on a dish. Our rice is always hot and the naan bread and vegetable Pakora are better than we have had at other local Indian restaurants. I have tried every chicken dish and have found them all satisfactory. My husband always eats the lamb and out friend loves the Chicken Tikka.
The owners are very courteous and share there stories of living in India, the chef often comes out to our table to ask about the meal. We always order off the menu and once had the buffet for a Christmas party we booked, everything was delicious.
The main drawback is the "strip mall" decor and lack of staffing on weekdays. However, we have noticed more and more tables are filling on the off nights, like a Monday or Tuesday.
It is true there are quirks, some nights better than others. But like most mom and pop restaurants, Bombay kitchen can grow on the patron and it is not hard to become a regular when you are treated special.

First Visit: Initialy, we were questioning why it was empty at 8pm on a Wednesday, we found out soon enough. We ordered the Galuti Kabob (lamb) and let's just say it was basically microwaved lamb sausage. It was not "homemade" or "made from scratch" as their advertisements say. This was not worth the $8.95. The Dosai was also cold when it was brought out to us and it barely had any stuff inside ($8.95 for barely anything). We order the Chicken tikka and the Chicken Vindaloo (they ran out of lamb, which is odd since we were able to get the kabobs). These are the two most common indian dishes around, yet they tasted as if someone very inexperienced had cooked it. The rice which came with our food was very cold. My take on the horrible experience: They ran out of the lamb because everyone ate the portions they made in the morning during the lunch buffet. The remainder of the day's lunch buffet unfortunately became our dinner. With their dismal dinner crowd, I can see why they are cutting corners and reheating their food.
Second Visit: Only reason we went was because we had a Restaurant . com Gift Card. BE warned, even if you purchase a $25 gift card for $4, don't use it at this place. I'd rather let my $4 go to waste. I learned the hard way. This time, there was one other couple there, other than us. The somosas were actually decent and I was starting to think it was a fluke that we had such a bad expeience last time. I was wrong. Again the Dosai was cold and unfilling. Another traditional dish, Alu Ghobi, was barely cooked as the cauliflower was still raw. I can't get how they can mess up classical indian dishes.
WORST PART: WARNING!!!! WARNING!!!! They modified the total amount on the credit card receipt after I left the restaurant. The store next door is MORE EXPENSIVE than other indian stores. DO NO EAT OR SHOP HERE. ME: Indian, 29, Uncle owns indian restaurant in DC. I wonder who those are who left 5 star reviews.
