In the increasingly crowded field of Irish pubs, it's good to have something that sets you apart from the crowd. For The Hibernian, that would be the best fish and chips in town, starring a trio of hefty cod filets wrapped in a beer batter crust whose lightness and crispness border on tempura. Also rewarding are Irish smoked salmon, chicken and ham croquettes, and anything topped with the kitchen's excellent golden raisin-spiked curry sauce. The Hibernian is one of the smallest Irish pubs around, which gives it an unusually cozy atmosphere. Draft Guinness doesn't hurt, either.
