This family home and farm on a horseshoe bend on the Deep River, near Carthage and Sanford, was the site of a Revolutionary War battle between the Patriots and Loyalists on July 29, 1781. It was owned by Whig Col. Philip Alston and was attacked by the forces of Tory Col. David Fanning.
The site is managed by the N.C. Division of Historic Sites and Properties, within the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources.
